This includes stocking your refrigerator with appropriate foods and beverages. Immediately diving into your favorite meals won’t be an option, so make sure you review the following list provided by your implant dentist, so you don’t experience any issues or complications while healing.

What to Expect Immediately Following Your All-On-4 Procedure

Once your dentist completes the surgical placement of your All-On-4 implants, you can expect to experience some soreness, discomfort, swelling, and slight bleeding. You may also have a sore throat, making it hard to swallow. As a result, you’ll need to stick to a liquid diet the first few weeks after your surgery. This includes drinking plenty of water to remain hydrated and flush out any potential bacteria and particles that may try to infect your surgical sites. You can also drink tea, coconut water, broth, cream-based or pureed soups, smoothies, yogurt drinks, milk, and meal replacement shakes.

Although this won’t likely be the most enjoyable few weeks, you’ll be glad you didn’t waiver from this liquid diet, especially since you’ll likely be taking over-the-counter pain relievers to minimize discomfort. Any added pressure from certain foods will only cause more soreness.

What to Eat or Drink 2 Weeks to 3 Months After Surgery

While continuing with your All-On-4 recovery, you can begin to incorporate other foods and beverages into your daily diet once you no longer feel as much soreness. However, you should still only consume “soft foods” during this time, such as:

Applesauce

Soft bread

Bananas

Avocados

Mashed potatoes

Oatmeal

Cooked pasta

Eggs

Cheese

Polenta

Hummus

Yogurt

Chili

During this timeframe, you are encouraged to use a blender or food processor to make certain foods easier to eat. You’re also advised to stay away from alcohol, as it can compromise your dental implants in Weyauwega and potentially cause implant failure. It’s important that you listen to your body to know whether you should try to incorporate other foods or not. If you’re unsure, err on the side of caution and avoid it. You can also ask your dentist as to whether a certain food is acceptable to consume.

About the Author
Dr. William Twohig is pleased to provide patients suffering from tooth loss with an alternative to traditional dental implants.
